Sentosa is a popular resort island located in Singapore, situated off the southern coast of the main island. Covering an area of approximately 5 square kilometres, Sentosa is connected to the mainland by road, cable car, pedestrian boardwalk, and the Sentosa Express monorail. History
Originally known as Pulau Blakang Mati, the island was once a British military fortress. After independence, Singapore redeveloped the island into a leisure destination, officially renaming it Sentosa, which means "peace and tranquility" in Malay, in 1972.
